Encore.org’s Generation to Generation (Gen2Gen) Campaign
Gen2Gen is a five-year campaign aimed at inspiring adults over 50 to make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth, particularly those growing up in challenging circumstances — because every child deserves a web of support, and every older person has something to give.
While the United States is among the world’s richest countries, millions of children in this country live in poverty and lack the resources and support they need to thrive. Reversing this trend must become a national priority—with a ready solution hidden in plain sight: Millions of Americans moving into their 50s and beyond want to leave a positive legacy for future generations. Our campaign aims to turn that interest into action.
Over the next five years, Gen2Gen will:
- Mobilize 1 million people to help young people thrive
- Create 100 million media impressions through storytelling and thought leadership
- Partner with 1,000 organizations to showcase innovation and spread best practices
By bringing millions of people together in ways that cross boundaries of age, race and class, the Gen2Gen campaign will shift the cultural narrative away from conflict and separation and toward meaningful, intergenerational community engagement in ways that benefit all.
The Position: Learning Lab Manager
This position reports to the Learning Lab Director and is a full-time, exempt position. The Learning Lab Manager will work with the Learning Lab Director to support a diverse network of communities and organizations experimenting with effective models for engaging adults 50+ to help children thrive. The network is designed to facilitate innovation and agile learning among partners, distill essential design elements necessary for success, and diffuse/disseminate learning to maximize its spread across relevant networks and fields. The Learning Lab Manager will also co-design and support a robust online learning community for youth serving practitioners to distill and spread best practices for leveraging encore talent.
- Work with up to a dozen identified communities beginning immediately, and others that will be added during the campaign, in a collaborative learning environment to prototype the most effective means for leveraging adults 50+ in service of children and youth: Key activities include monthly webinars, coaching calls and support for data collection/display and measurement of progress as well as helping design and facilitate in-person convenings.
- Collaborate with the campaign’s communications and mobilization teams as well as local communities to test innovative strategies for engaging individuals age 50+ in a range of roles.
- Co-design and facilitate an online learning network comprised of practitioners from formal and informal youth-serving organizations to distill and spread best practices for leveraging encore talent (including sourcing and curating materials as well as facilitating monthly webinars and problem solving sessions.)
- Share learnings through multiple channels to the rest of the campaign.
- Ensure integration of innovation/learning/experimentation activities across all campaign activities and workstreams, and to other Encore.org work.
Encore.org seeks an exceptionally creative, self-directed and organized professional with skills in coaching, facilitating learning networks, training design, rapid prototyping, and designing online learning communities.
You are passionate about the aims of the campaign. You are committed to building relationships with partner organizations and community leaders based on shared aims. You are a great listener and you’re able to create a learning community that promotes curiosity, collective leadership, experimentation and innovation. You have an entrepreneurial spirit and are able to work in a creative, fast-paced, “start-up” environment. You have the ability to rapidly switch gears from being focused on developing relationships to being equally disciplined about figuring out what works. You understand accessibility and efficiency in designing online and in-person learning systems that work for people and organizations.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an empathetic personality; demonstrated negotiation, mediation and listening skills; a good sense of humor; and experience building strong professional relationships with diverse colleagues and constituents.
- Significant experience with coaching, community coaching and/or technical assistance provision.
- Track record of demonstrating sound judgment by making appropriate decisions, knowing when to take the initiative to anticipate problems and innovate creative solutions, managing complex situations with discretion and tact, and prioritizing and completing tasks in a skillful and timely fashion.
- Excellent communication skills; demonstrated skill in public speaking and writing.
- Strong project-management skills, including being detail-oriented and managing toward aggressive timelines.
- Ability to work with a remote team of colleagues.
- Experience facilitating both in-person and online learning networks.
- Familiarity with rapid-cycle prototyping of new approaches and innovations sought.
- Experience working within diverse communities with respect to age, race, ethnicity, socio-economics, and geography.
- Prior experience in one or more of the fields in which the campaign will operate is a must (e.g., early childhood, K-12 education, youth development, aging, intergenerational practice, volunteer recruitment/engagement, etc.).
- Experience working with communities and/or organizations on issues of ageism and racial equity preferred.
- Working knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Webex, Salesforce. Familiarity with online learning and collaboration tools (e.g., Google Suite, Google Hangout, Trello, Slack) highly desired.
- Willingness to travel domestically approximately twice per month.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and minimum five years of professional experience.
