Job Description

Taproot Foundation is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Marketing and Communications Associate to join the External Relations team with the focus on communications for Taproot’s online programs. This individual will contribute to a wide variety of marketing functions such as user communications, cross-promotions with partners, driving engagement, reaching new audiences, building community, and content creation—all toward the common goal of increasing the use and quality of our online programs in providing pro bono opportunities to both nonprofits and skilled volunteers here in the United States and around the world. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with proven ability in communications as well as a genuine interest in working for an innovative nonprofit organization. This role reports directly to the Manager of Evaluation and Communications and will work closely with the fast-paced, agile online programs team. This is a part-time (20hr/week) unbenefitted position located in our Tribeca office.


  • Draft and copyedit content including blogs, emails, social media posts, and newsletter copy, keeping consistent with Taproot’s brand in tone, visuals, and voice
  • Contribute to promotions to engage new nonprofit and volunteer users in pro bono service through Taproot’s online programs
  • Audit, edit, and update content on the taprootplus.org website
  • Audit and improve nonprofit and volunteer user communications on the Taproot+ and Virtual Office Hours platform to increase re-engagement and service quality
  • Curate, manage, and publish content on social media to engage new audiences and drive traffic to taprootplus.org
  • Assist in developing strategies and content for various cross-promotional opportunities with current and prospective external partners
  • Prepare reports summarizing engagement and activity (i.e., Twitter engagement stats for different posts or how many conversions resulted from a particular email outreach)
  • Other duties as assigned or requested


  • 1-2 years of communications and/or marketing experience, ideally in the nonprofit sector or equivalent, relevant academic degree
  • Demonstrable excellence in writing, editing, and communications skills in English
  • Proficient in producing stakeholder-facing messaging (i.e., websites, newsletters, nurture emails)
  • Demonstrable experience building a robust online presence and community using various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn are a must)
  • Proven ability to work independently and function effectively as a member of a cross-functional team; must be able to work with team members in virtual locations
  • Must be organized, able to execute on multiple projects concurrently, and meet deadlines
  • Must be tech intuitive with proven record of learning and adopting new tools and software platforms
  • Expert in MS Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Working knowledge of Google analytics a plus
  • Working knowledge of graphic design and layouts a plus
